Blood on the Wind: no trail when you use the lantern to chase the feathered man
Lantern shows no trail in Blood on the Wind after leaving the first fight? Skip the marker, find the right downed body and the ambush restarts the quest.
Steps
- Stop following the lantern objective. Don't keep using the lantern at the quest marker. The fix that worked ignored the 'follow the trail' step completely.
- Go to the spot shown in the source thread. The player who found the fix posted a map screenshot (linked in the thread below). The spot is in the Demeniss area, just below the outlined area and west of the nearest fast-travel point.
- Use your lantern and find the right body. Light the lantern there and look for a downed NPC with a yellowish "!" above them. There are several bodies lying around, so check until you find the one with the mark. It isn't marked on the map.
- Interact with the body. Talking to the correct NPC plays a cutscene in which the Black Crow's men ambush you.
- Win the fight. Defeat the ambushers. The Black Crow then shows up and the quest carries on as normal.
The problem: in the main quest Blood on the Wind, the objective tells you to chase the feathered man (players in the thread call him the Black Crow) by lighting your lantern and following his trail. You light it at the marker and nothing appears, so there’s no trail and no boss to fight.
Players hit this in a few ways. The original poster saw the trail at first, quit the game, and it was gone after they logged back in. Others had started the first fight with the Black Crow and then left, one because they were underlevelled and another after giving up and changing difficulty. When they came back, the trail never showed up again.
What fixed it: one player skipped the lantern objective and went straight to the place where the quest continues. They found a downed NPC there with a “!” above them, and talking to that NPC restarted the sequence with an ambush. Another player who had the same bug said this got them moving again, and added that the body isn’t marked anywhere.
Good to know
- Verifying the game files on Steam and reloading the save didn’t help the player who found this fix. Going to the body yourself is what worked.
- The exact spot is easiest to find from the map screenshot in the thread, so open the source link before you set off.
- The original poster hasn’t said whether it worked for them. So far one other player has confirmed it.
