Gift does nothing on controller in Crimson Desert? How to set the quantity
You pick a gift, confirm, and nothing happens? On controller the Gift menu has a hidden quantity button. Here's how players got gifting working again.
Steps
- Open Gift and select the item. Talk to the NPC, choose Gift and highlight the item you want to give, the same as before.
- Press the button that opens the quantity slider. Since the Gift menu changed, choosing an item doesn't hand it over on its own. You have to open the quantity slider and set an amount. The first player to work it out on controller pressed X, and the menu doesn't show any prompt for it.
- Set the amount and give it. Once the slider appears, pick how many you want to give and confirm. The item should leave your inventory and the trust bar should move.
- On PlayStation, switch the controller layout to Classic. A PS5 Pro player found the button mapping in the new default controller layout is what breaks it. Switching the controller layout setting from the default to Classic fixed gifting for them.
- Or do your gifting on keyboard and mouse. On PC, several players confirmed keyboard and mouse still work. Click the gift to bring up the quantity slider, then give it.
The problem: you walk up to an NPC, open Gift, pick an item and confirm, and nothing happens. The item stays in your inventory and the trust bar doesn’t move. Players started running into this around the Charting the Unknown release, and it hits people playing on a controller.
Why it happens: hotfix 2.04.03 reworked the Gift menu so you can choose several items and set a quantity for each. Selecting an item no longer gives it straight away. You now have to open a quantity slider first, and on a controller there’s no on-screen prompt telling you which button does that.
The fix: after you highlight the gift, press the button that brings up the quantity slider. The player who solved it on Steam pressed X on their controller, then the sliders appeared and the gift went through. Two other players in the same thread confirmed the controller was missing a prompt and that gifting worked for them once they used keyboard and mouse instead.
If the button still does nothing
- PlayStation: one PS5 Pro player found the mapping in the new default controller layout is the problem. Switching the controller layout from the default to Classic in the settings fixed gifting for them.
- PC: switch to keyboard and mouse for gifting. Players who tried it said clicking the gift brings up the quantity slider, and they could give it from there.
- Restart the game. Pearl Abyss’s Known Issues list says interactions with NPCs can be unavailable in certain situations, and restarting the game clears it for now.
Not the same as the title screen crash
If the game throws you back to the title screen when you press Gift, that’s a different bug that hotfix 2.04.06 fixed. See the gifting crash fix. For what each gift is worth and what you get at 100, see how to raise NPC trust.
