Mounts missing in Crimson Desert? Where your wolf, bear and legendary mounts went

Only your horse and one other mount left on the mount wheel? Since patch 1.06.00 the rest live in the Special Mounts tab of your inventory. Here's how to get them back.

Steps

  1. Open your inventory and find the Special Mounts tab. Patch 1.06.00 moved special mounts out of the mount wheel and into their own tab in the inventory. Your wolf, bear, deer, boar, legendary mounts and Cloudcarts are listed there.
  2. Pick the special mount you want to ride. Select one mount in the Special Mounts tab. It becomes the special mount slot on your mount wheel, which is F1 on PC. Only one special mount can sit on the wheel at a time, next to one horse.
  3. Summon it from the mount wheel. Hold the mount wheel button and choose the special mount slot. To swap to a different one later, go back to the Special Mounts tab and select another.
  4. Switch back to your horse on the wheel. Picking a special mount doesn't remove your horse. Open the mount wheel and change the selection back to the horse slot to summon your horse instead.
  5. Missing a legendary horse? Check the stable. Legendary horses aren't always in the Special Mounts tab. Players found theirs waiting at a stable or assigned to another character, so visit a stable and look through your horses there.

The problem: you load your save, open the mount wheel and most of your mounts are gone. You still have your horse and maybe one other animal, but the wolf, the stag, the legendary horses and the Cloudcart you worked for are nowhere to be seen. This keeps catching out players coming back after a long break, especially now that Charting the Unknown is pulling people back into the game.

The short answer: they’re not gone, they’ve moved. Since patch 1.06.00 your special mounts have their own tab in the inventory, and the mount wheel only shows your horse plus the one special mount you picked there. When a returning player asked about this on Steam on October 28, two other players pointed to the tab and said they’d been using it for months. Back in May, the player who started the “All legendary mounts gone” thread said the same answer cleared it up for them once they reread the patch notes.

Why your mounts disappeared from the wheel

Patch 1.06.00 changed how mounts work in a few ways at once:

  • It let you register many more animals as special mounts after gaining their trust, including bears, boars, wolves, deer, mountain goats, Kuku Birds, iguanas, raptors, camels, lions and tigers.
  • It added a Special Mounts tab to the inventory to hold them all.
  • It limited the mount quickslot to one mount and one special mount, so the wheel doesn’t get overloaded.
  • Saddles and other mount gear for special mounts are now equipped from that same tab, and you can buy saddles for them at saddleries in the cities.

So if you last played before that patch, it looks as if everything except your horse and the last special mount you used has vanished. Lots of players have asked about this on Steam since, and some think the menu should make it more obvious.

How to get a specific mount back

  1. Open your inventory and go to the Special Mounts tab.
  2. Select the mount you want. Players say legendary mounts and Cloudcarts are listed there too.
  3. Hold the mount wheel button (F1 on PC). The mount you picked now sits in the special mount slot, next to your horse.
  4. To go back to riding your horse, switch the wheel back to the horse slot. One player was worried he’d lost his horse for good after picking a special mount, until others showed him the horse option was still on the wheel.

Still can’t find it?

  • Legendary horses can be at a stable. A player who’d lost two legendary horses found them in the stables, and another said legendary horses are either assigned to a character or kept at a stable. Visit one and check your horse list. One player also fixed some odd mount glitches just by swapping mounts at a stable.
  • Coming back from before May 2026? A separate bug after an April 2026 patch really did remove special mounts, Cloudcarts and Blackstar the dragon for a lot of players. That bug has since been fixed: a player in the “Dragon Missing after Patch” thread later confirmed it, and patch 1.05.00 also fixed an issue that stopped legendary mounts from being summoned. Make sure your game is fully updated before you go looking.
  • Some players still report a missing mount. One player said a legendary horse he’d lost wasn’t in the Special Mounts tab or at the spot where it usually appeared. If you’ve checked the tab and the stables and it’s still gone, report it to Pearl Abyss support.
