How to get the Wyvern mount in Crimson Desert (egg, hatching and growing it)
Hatch a Wyvern Egg from Wyvern's Cradle in Delesyia, feed the Baby Wyvern meat three times a day for three in-game days, then choose Grow for a permanent flying mount.
Steps
- Learn Focused Force Palm. The first Wyvern Egg sits behind a bismuth wall that only Focused Force Palm can break. Most players learn it in Chapter 4 near Scholastone; if you miss it there, the next chance is in Chapter 9.
- Go to Wyvern's Cradle in southwest Delesyia. It's west of Dewhaven on the map and northwest of Fort Windridge. In game, the location readout lists it under Dewhaven Territory, Three Brothers' Cliff. The area is full of Wyvernflame enemies with muskets, so clear them out first.
- Break into the cave and take the Wyvern Egg. In the crater, climb the stairs into the pillared cave section and follow the left wall to the bismuth blockage with a golden Abyss orb. Use Focused Force Palm on it. The egg is on the right side of the treasure room inside, next to a chest with the Skyblazer helm.
- Hatch it in the marked Wyvern Nest. Carry the egg to the nest marked on your minimap, a short way southwest of the cave. Drop it right in the twig centre. When it starts glowing and shaking, wait a few minutes of real time, then walk up to it and choose Hatch. The Baby Wyvern registers as a pet straight away.
- Feed the Baby Wyvern meat three times a day. Summon it from the Pets tab and drop raw meat on the ground in front of you (Marbled Meat works). It flies down, eats and glows when the feed counts. About three feeds count per in-game day; after that the growth bar stops moving until the next day. Rest at a camp or inn to move the day on, and repeat for about three in-game days until its Level of Growth reaches 3.
- Call it down and choose Grow. At Growth Level 3, look at the summoned Baby Wyvern (Ctrl on PC, LB on controller), use the prompt to bring it to the ground, then pick Grow. It turns into an adult Wyvern.
- Ride it from the Special Mounts tab. Select the Wyvern in the Special Mounts tab of your inventory so it takes the special mount slot on your mount wheel, then summon it and fly.
The short answer: you don’t tame an adult wyvern, you raise one. Take a Wyvern Egg from the hidden cave at Wyvern’s Cradle in southwest Delesyia, hatch it in the nest nearby, and feed the Baby Wyvern meat about three times per in-game day. After about three days it reaches Growth Level 3, and a Grow option turns it into an adult Wyvern you can ride as a special mount. Players on Steam confirm it’s a permanent flying mount with no flight timer and no cooldown, unless it gets knocked out.
The Wyvern is part of the free base-game updates (Baby Wyvern pet in patch 1.08.00, Wyvern mount in 1.10.00). It isn’t part of the Charting the Unknown DLC, so you don’t need the DLC for it.
Before you go: Focused Force Palm
The first egg is sealed behind a bismuth wall, and only Focused Force Palm breaks it. PC Gamer says most players learn it in Chapter 4 on the way to Scholastone. If you missed it, the next chance comes in Chapter 9, during The Calling. A Steam player answering someone in Chapter 7 said the skill is the only requirement. If the vision near Scholastone never appeared for you, see Focused Force Palm not appearing.
Game8 adds that you can reach Delesyia before the story takes you there by flying west across the sea from Bowspirit Cape in Demeniss. After Chapter 10 you can just travel there.
Getting the egg
- Go to Wyvern’s Cradle in southwest Delesyia. It’s west of Dewhaven and northwest of Fort Windridge. When you’re there, the location readout under your minimap shows Dewhaven Territory, Three Brothers’ Cliff.
- Clear out the Wyvernflame enemies. Game8 warns their muskets hit hard.
- If you’re on the Children of the Woods faction quest, talk to the Shai in the area first. PC Gamer says Focused Force Palm won’t work on the wall until you do.
- In the crater, climb the stairs into the pillared part of the cave. Follow the left wall to the bismuth blockage with a golden Abyss orb in it.
- Use Focused Force Palm on the orb. The screen flashes yellow when you’re aiming at a valid target.
- Inside, the Wyvern Egg is on the right of the treasure room. Open the chest too: it holds the Skyblazer helm.
Hatching it
- Carry the egg to the Wyvern Nest marked on your minimap, a short way southwest of the cave. If you drop the egg on the way, just pick it up again.
- Put it right in the twig centre of the nest. The guides say placement matters.
- Wait. The egg glows and shakes, and after a few minutes of real time it gets more intense. Game8 puts it at about 5 minutes.
- Walk up to it and choose Hatch. The prompt doesn’t pop up on its own. You have to go to the egg.
The Baby Wyvern is yours straight away. There’s no trust meter. It hovers near you and picks up loot like other pets, but it’s too big to perch on your arm.
Growing it into a mount
- Open the Pets tab and check the Level of Growth bar under the Baby Wyvern (patch 1.10.00 added it). It starts at level 1.
- Summon the Baby Wyvern and drop raw meat on the ground in front of you. Marbled Meat is the usual pick, but other raw meat works too. It flies down, eats and glows when the feed counts. A Steam commenter adds that you can now also call it down, carry it, and pick Feed on the meat in your inventory.
- About three feeds count per in-game day. Arekkz Gaming found each feed adds roughly 10 points to the bar, and after the third one the bar stops moving until the day resets (they put the reset at 11:00 PM in-game time). TheBoyGerald’s guide gives the same routine: three pieces of meat a day. Rest at a camp or inn to move to the next day, then feed it three more times.
- Repeat until it hits Growth Level 3. In both videos that takes about three in-game days, reaching level 2 on day two and level 3 on day three.
- Call it down to the ground. PC Gamer says to look at it while it’s summoned (Ctrl on PC, LB on controller) and use the prompt. Then choose Grow. A Steam player stuck at level 3 found this was the missing step. If you don’t see the prompt, ConsolePulse suggests raising your lantern toward it.
- The adult Wyvern goes into the Special Mounts tab of your inventory. Select it there to put it in the special mount slot on your mount wheel. If your other mounts seem to have vanished, that’s the one-special-mount limit. See where your wolf, bear and legendary mounts went.
Feeding still matters after it grows up. The adult has its own growth levels. A Steam player feeds theirs by mounting it, opening the inventory and holding the use key on the food to pick Feed.
Want a Wyvern pet and a mount?
Growing the Baby Wyvern uses it up, so you lose the pet. There are more eggs in the same corner of Delesyia. Several guides and two YouTube videos (ViperMoose and KpShamino) show a second egg behind a ruined stone tower just north of the cave, near the roads. You don’t need Focused Force Palm for that one. Hatch it in the same nest. Steam players report finding three, four or five eggs around the area, including one in a shack to the southeast. One easy way to tell them apart: grow the first one before you hatch the second. VULKK also suggests putting the Small Wyvern Aviator Hat on the pet.
Can you just ride a wild wyvern?
Yes, but only for a while. Patch 1.08.00 lets you ride wild wyverns temporarily once you subdue them, and Game8 says you’ll find them flying around Fort Windridge in Delesyia. You can’t keep one, though. The only permanent Wyvern is one you hatch and raise yourself.
If something goes wrong
- Egg won’t hatch. Make sure it’s in the nest marked on the minimap, right in the twigs, and that you walk up to it and choose Hatch rather than waiting for a pop-up. Also check you have a free pet slot. Patch 1.12.00 fixed eggs disappearing when you hatched them with your pet list full, so having room clearly matters. Patch 1.11.00 added pet challenge rewards that raise how many pets you can register.
- Game crashes while hatching. Hotfix 1.10.01 fixed a crash when hatching eggs near Wyvern’s Cradle. Update your game.
- Lost an egg? Patches 1.12.00 and 1.13.00 fixed bugs with Wyvern eggs in Recoverable Items, so check there.
- Can’t get on it. Patch 1.11.00 fixed the Wyvern being summoned in a state you can’t mount. It also lets you use Axiom Force to grab on in mid-air without learning Back Hang.
- Wyvern on cooldown. On Steam, players say it only goes on cooldown after it’s been knocked out, and the cooldown isn’t long.
- Don’t like how it flies? Patch 2.00.00 added a Flying Mount Controls option. Camera mode follows the camera. Manual mode lets you climb and dive with separate inputs.
Wyvern saddle (optional)
Game Rant and the Steam guide say the Wyvern Saddle costs 43 silver at the saddlery just outside the city of Delesyia. It adds 20 Defense. You equip it from the Special Mounts tab. ConsolePulse says it only shows up in the shop after you’ve grown a Wyvern. You don’t need it to fly.
