A Wife's Encouragement: where to get a Perch when you can't catch one

Stuck on A Wife's Encouragement because you keep catching everything but Perch? Brooke's fishing shop at Horseshoe Lake sells it. Here's where to find him.

  1. Talk to the woman at the fishing dock. A Wife's Encouragement is one of the Tales of the Demenissian Residents. A woman near a fishing dock asks you to quietly get a fish for her husband, and the next objective is to acquire a Perch.
  2. Stop fishing at the quest marker if it only gives other species. Several players caught dozens of fish at the marked spot without a single Perch. When they swam in, they could see Perch but the grab prompt stayed greyed out. You don't need to catch it yourself.
  3. Go to the Fishing Shop at Horseshoe Lake. Brooke, the Demeniss Fishing Dock Vendor, runs a small shop on the stone point that sticks out into Horseshoe Lake, east of Demeniss. On the world map it sits just right of the big DEMENISS lettering.
  4. Buy a Perch from Brooke. Perch is in his regular stock, usually two at a time, and his shop restocks daily.
  5. Hand the Perch to the husband. Give the fish to the husband to finish the quest. The reward is 40 Demenissian contribution and a Medium Bag.

The problem: the Demeniss side quest A Wife’s Encouragement asks you to get a Perch for a woman’s husband. You fish at the quest location for ages and land every species except Perch. If you dive in, you can see Perch swimming right there, but the grab prompt stays greyed out. No general vendor sells it either.

The fix: buy one. Brooke, the fishing vendor at Horseshoe Lake, has Perch in his normal stock. A Steam player pointed this out in a thread about the bug, and two other players stuck on the same quest thanked him after it worked. Item databases for the game list Perch in Brooke’s shop as well.

Where is Brooke’s fishing shop?

Brooke’s stall is the Fishing Shop at Horseshoe Perch, a stone point that juts out into Horseshoe Lake, east of the city of Demeniss. If you’re looking at the world map, find the large DEMENISS label and look just to the right of it. The shop also sells fishing rods, Small Spirlin and Burbot.

He only keeps a couple of Perch at a time, and the stock restocks daily. If he’s sold out, wait a day and come back.

Would rather catch one yourself?

Perch does show up in the wild. The game’s data lists it at Horseshoe Lake, Crescent Lake, the North Hernand fishing dock and Smugglers’ Dock, but it’s one catch among several species, so it can take a while. If reeling is giving you trouble on a controller, see can’t reel in fish with a controller.

Once you have it, take the Perch to the husband. Completing the quest gives you 40 Demenissian contribution and a Medium Bag.
