Parry 15 times with a spear in 30 seconds: how to finish the challenge
The spear parry challenge counts every enemy your parry hits. Use Evasive Slash in the middle of a crowd of melee enemies and it fills up quickly.
Steps
- Equip a spear. Use a spear for the challenge. One player said a halberd worked too.
- Unlock Evasive Slash. This is the parry attack on RB + B on an Xbox controller. One player described it as level 2 of the first skill you unlock in the blue skill tree.
- Find a big group of melee enemies. Suggestions from the thread: the goblin groups in the forests between the Reed field graves and the path to the coastal fishers' village, the soldiers at the Demeniss training yards, or a blockaded Cowbell Ranch in Demeniss, where enemies kept respawning.
- Wait for an attack, then use it. Evasive Slash only becomes a parry when an enemy is actually attacking you. Used too early, it's just a spin that costs stamina. Wait for the swing and hold the buttons as it lands.
- Hit several enemies with each parry. Every enemy the parry hits counts towards the 15, so stand in the middle of the group and you'll get several per parry.
The problem: the challenge says to parry 15 times with a spear in 30 seconds. That sounds like one perfect parry every two seconds, and normal enemies don’t attack often enough for that.
What’s going on: you don’t need 15 separate parries. Each enemy your parry hits counts, so a parry that hits three to five enemies covers a big chunk of the total. The player who started the thread came back and confirmed this once others had worked it out: use a weapon move that hits a group and it’s not that bad.
Good to know
- Players disagreed on which move is best. A normal timed block tap the moment a hit lands also works but is hard to time. Another player suggested the focused parry instead. Evasive Slash was the one most players recommended.
- One player said playing on Hard makes enemy groups more aggressive, which helps here. Another thought enemies attack less often if you just stand there without pressing anything.
- The thread only gives controller inputs. On keyboard, look up which keys Evasive Slash is bound to in your skill menu.
